Chan L., Hunterdon County
As a scientist and educator, Rush naturally is concerned with the upbringing and future of our nation’s youth. This is vividly demonstrated by his many legislative initiatives to enhance federal support and allocations for education and student finance. He also actively supports out of classroom activities that promote the well-being and all-round development of our future generations.
As President of the New Jersey State 4-H Association, I have had the fortunate experience of working with Rush to preserve federal grants to extension services provided by the Rutgers Cooperative Extension, which include collaboration with and supporting 4-H’s youth development programs. I personally witnessed how our extension professionals specializing in SET (science, engineering and technology) education benefited from the many informative workshops Rush diligently organized to promote mathematical and scientific literacy among our youth, and close the gap existing between them and fellow peers in other countries in these critical areas. Despite his busy schedule, Rush always makes every effort to personally meet with county youth delegates that 4-H sent to the Capitol in summer and the fall annually, to educate and interest these delegates in the nation’s political processes.
In my other responsibility as President of Hunterdon Youth Services, Inc., a non-profit providing group home and counseling services for at -risk boys throughout the state for over thirty years, I know I can always count on Rush’s help and support to give our clients the second chance they need and deserve, so society collectively can benefit when they transform themselves to become productive citizens. For his untiring interest and effort in supporting the education and growth of our youth, as well as his progressive and principled stance on issues, I whole-heartedly endorse Rush’s re-election as one of our state’s representatives and spokespersons at the United States Congress!
