Representative Holt Kicks Off Re-Election Campaign: "I Believe the American Dream Belongs To All Of Us."
WEST WINDSOR, N.J.: U.S. Representative Rush Holt officially kicked off his 2010 reelection campaign today with a visit to Princeton Power Systems, Inc. in West Windsor. He discussed his accomplishments assisting small businesses and pushing innovative technologies to create growth and jobs in the future.
“This election is not about me, nor is it about my opponent,” said Representative Holt. “It is about you- your families and your neighbors. And the question is: to whom does the American Dream belong? To all of us? Or just to a privileged few? To me, the answer is clear. I believe in, and all my work is devoted to, making sure the American Dream belongs to all of us.”
Princeton Power Systems designs and manufactures advanced power electronics. Based upon patented technologies, their products serve a variety of roles with high reliability and power quality. Princeton Power Systems was one of many small businesses that attended Representative Holt’s small business seminars. These seminars are held across the 12th district and help small business people create jobs and advance their business.
Representative Holt also discussed a concept called Communities of Innovation (COI’s). The idea behind COI’s is that innovative businesses thrive in places where there is a high concentration of researchers, cutting edge technology, educational opportunity, good transportation infrastructure, business incubators and access to capital. The Route 1 Corridor and Fort Monmouth area are already developing COI’s, but more work can be done to promote and sustain these kinds of areas.
Representative Holt has long been a proponent of cultivating COI’s. That is why he worked tirelessly to ensure that we have qualified teachers in our classrooms by dramatically increasing funding for the Mathematics and Science Partnerships program. He also wrote the law that provides upfront tuition assistance, up to $16,000 ($4,000 per year), to encourage more math, science and foreign-language teachers. He also worked with the state and local governments, business and community groups and the universities and colleges in the area to create the Einstein Alley initiative.
While Representative Holt has advocated making college more affordable and for saving teachers' jobs, his opponent Scott Sipprelle has maintained that the federal government should have no role in education, a position that would kill innovation and technological advancement, both here in the 12th and countrywide. In short, Scott Sipprelle’s policies and positions would kill any hope of cultivating Communities of Innovation.
In addition to visiting Princeton Power Systems, Representative Holt spent time today in each of the 12th district’s five counties. He visited early morning commuters at the Middletown train station, seniors in Monroe, walked door to door in Franklin, and stopped by businesses in downtown Lambertville.
